  • Location: Municipal Auditorium, San Antonio, Texas, USA
  • Referee: Norman Stein

"Mike Ayala won the NABF super bantamweight title by scoring a TKO over Cesar Deciga, Monterrey, Mexico, at 2:40 of the 7th round. Ayala was never in serious trouble. Using an overpowering left hook, often set up by a simple one-two combination, Ayala took control of the fight from the onset and made Deciga, who is now 48-7-4 as a professional, use the counter-punch as his main weapon. In round six, Ayala literally punched Deciga about the ring, isolating him against the ropes and banging away. Deciga looked defenseless but took the punishment. Ayala opened the 7th by stinging Deciga with a quick left hook. Then Deciga moved Ayala into the ropes and scored with jabs and body punches. Ayala counter-punched his way out of trouble. Mike then delivered a straight right, followed by a left hook and Deciga was dazed. Ayala maneuvered him across the ring to the ropes and delivered a thundering right cross. Referee Norman Stein stepped in, called it off and it was happy birthday Mike." -San Antonio Light
