"San Antonio super bantamweight Mike Ayala showed an abundance of quickness, agility and ring sense Tuesday night as he won a unanimous decision over Raul Tirado of Mexico City in the Municipal Auditorium. Ayala, 120 3/4, stayed on the move throughout the 10-round bout, slipping punches, striking with jabs, rights and his favorite left hook to score the victory. Though Ayala seemed to have control of the bout in its entirety, Tirado also landed several left hooks, especially in the 10th round when he appeared to hurt Ayala with three straight. Tirado, 122 1/2, got his share of good blows in, but Ayala's form and punching was superb. Ayala hit Tirado with everything." -San Antonio Express
