Mike Belloise vs. Dave Crowley (2nd meeting)
Mike Belloise 125 lbs beat Dave Crowley 126 lbs by KO at 2:52 in round 9 of 15
- Date: 1936-09-03
- Location: Madison Square Garden, New York, New York, USA
- Referee: Arthur Donovan
"Mike Belloise, 124 1/2, of New York won the NYSAC world featherweight title on a 9th round knockout over British titleholder Dave Crowley. Crowley, 126, was counted out at 2:52 of the 9th after toppling to the floor, clutching his groin and claiming he had been fouled by a left uppercut that referee Arthur Donovan insisted landed in fair territory. Belloise had outboxed and outpunched Crowley from the start, but Crowley did use a right cross effectively at times. He was, however, staggered by a hard right in the 6th and saved by the bell in the 8th. In that round he rushed in with four seconds to go and was knocked flat by a short right to the jaw. He fell face downward and was in distress when the bell came to his rescue. In the 9th Crowley went down suddenly from a body punch, grimacing and rolling in seeming pain. After the count had finished, Crowley gestured in rage at his rival and they nearly came to blows again before Dave was contained by his handlers." -Associated Press
