Obituary

Michael J. Cusimano passed away on August 18, 2009 at the age of 93. He was the husband of the late Sara Verderame Cusimano. He is survived by five children, Joseph M. Cusimano, Salvador M. Cusimano, Vincent M. Cusimano, Maria Cusimano Palmisano and Donna Cusimano Paternostro. He was preceded in death by his mother Stella Amato Cusimano and his father Joseph M. Cusimano. He is survived by his sister, Sister Josephine Cusimano, Daughter of Charity, and 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Mike Cusimano was born in the French Quarter and attended school at St. Louis Cathedral and then St. Aloysius High School. He received a BBA degree from Tulane University and attended Post Graduate Courses in Personnel, Labor Relations and Salary Administration. He served as Personnel Director at Pendleton Shipyards and was later employed by Standard Fruit and Steamship Company as Personnel and Labor Relations Director. He served as member of the Labor Committee for the New Orleans Steamship Assoc. and the New York Steamship Assoc. After retiring from Standard Fruit he became Chief Clerk for Thomas Giraud at the New Orleans Traffic Court. Mike was involved in many aspects of amateur and professional boxing. He served on the Louisiana Boxing Commission under six different Governors and was inducted into the Italian Sports Hall of Fame.
