Mike DeJohn 211 lbs beat Dick Richardson 204 lbs by DQ in round 8 of 10

  • Date: 1960-07-27
  • Location: Coney Beach Arena, Porthcawl, Wales, United Kingdom
  • Referee: Eugene Henderson

"Mike DeJohn of Syracuse, NY, was nursing only a slight cut over his nose today as a souvenir of his bout with European heavyweight champion Dick Richardson and an ensuing riot during which the fans pelted the ring with a variety of missles. The explosion came after referee Eugene Henderson DQ'd the Welshman in the 8th round of a scheduled 10 round fight for butting. DeJohn floored Richardson three times in the 1st round and again in the 6th, but on the whole it was a butting, wrestling exhibition which aroused the ire of the spectators. The referee had warned both men about butting at the start of the 7th, and stopped the farce when Richardson persisted in such tactics in the next round." -Associated Press
