"In a fight that had almost as much action after the final bell as before, Mike Quarry narrowly saved his unbeaten string by squeezing out a 10 round majority decision over Andy Kendall at the Valley Arena Saturday night. It took everything the 19 year old Quarry had to gain his 26th straight win at the expense of Kendall. Kendall, 11 years older than Quarry and ranked 7th, had to contend with the younger fighter's constant dancing around the ring. With the fight extremely close going into the final two rounds, both fighters began to forget about footwork and jabs and started slugging while the crowd of 3,000, which paid a gross of $14,000 to see the fight, roared. In the final round, both fighters were hitting so hard at the finish that neither of them heard the bell, which seemed to signal the post fight fracas." -The L.A. Times
