"In the co-featured heavyweight match, Bill Sharkey of Howard Beach, N.Y., lost a majority 10 round decision to Mike Weaver of Los Angeles in a spirited bout which saw Weaver win the fight with a strong finish. Weaver was particualrly impressive in the 7th round when he slowed Sharkey with a left to the stomach and followed with a rapid combination which virtually closed Sharkey's right eye and inflicted a cut under his left. Sharkey went down late in the round but referee Arthur Mercante ruled it a slip. Weaver continued his effectiveness with a series of left jabs in the 8th round." -Associated Press
