"Stan Ward of Sacramento piled up points in the first six rounds to claim the California state heavyweight championship Tuesday night with an unanimous 12 round decision over Mike Weaver of Los Angeles. There were no knockdowns and neither fighter appeared in trouble in a dull bout dominated by infighting. Rounds 7 through 9 were about even and Weaver had the edge in the final three rounds but could not overcome the point deficit he incurred in the first half of the fight." -Associated Press
