"Mike Weaver wore down Stan Ward with a steady body attack and knocked him out in the 9th round at the Forum Friday night. Ward, who has won and lost to Weaver, suffered an eye cut in the first minute of the fight that in the early rounds appeared as if it might be cause to stop the bout. Ward's corner stopped the bleeding, but couldn't do anything about Weaver's relentless body punching. The end came with five seconds left in the 9th, when the quickly fading Ward went down after a barrage of lefts and rights to the head." -The L.A. Times
