Ned Hicks won the 1951 New York Golden Gloves 175lb Open Championship. Hicks defeated Herman Mayo of the National Athletic Club in the finals to win the Championship. In 1950 Hicks advanced to the finals of the 175lb Sub-Novice division and was defeated by Leonard Florio of the Police Athletic League. Hicks trained at the Police Athletic League.
