In February 1929 the Yorkton Enterprise reported that Nels Moe had been severely injured in a train accident:

'Word has been received here from The Pas that Nels Moe, former Yorkton resident, recently met with a serious accident neccessitating the amputation of his right arm, and the probability is that he may also lose his leg. Moe, who was a passenger on a train which had drawn up at the depot, went to another train that was standing on the other side of the tracks. In the meantime, a freight train drew up between the two passenger trains. Nels thought it would be a waste of time to walk around the freight on the way back to his own train, and as the freight was stationary at the time, he commenced to climb under the cars. Nobody saw him get under, and the train just started as Moe got underneath. It could not be stopped before he had been badly cut up. Both his arm and leg were badly crushed and the former had to be amputated.
