Amateur boxer Nelson Land died on Wednesday, May 28, 2002, after receiving a "fatal" punch during a boxing match held at a Jacksonville, Florida nightclub. Land was killed in Club Liquid after being knocked out. The Florida state's attorney's office declined to file any charges. Chief Assistant Attorney Jay Plotkin had said, "There was not enough evidence to prove criminal negligence by the owners and associates of Club Liquid in the death of Nelson Land. It is necessary to prove criminal negligence before criminal charges such as manslaughter can be filed."
