At various times said to be from Altus or Cement, Oklahoma, or El Paso, TX. His El Paso time was due to being stationed at Fort Bliss. He was the #1 gate attraction and best fighter in El Paso in 1918 and 1919.

Was born in Beechtree, PA in 1896 of 1897. (Tombstone says '96, Social Security says '97)

Joined the Army 21 Aug 1914 in Columbus, OH

Did not serve overseas. Made Corporal Jun 1917.

Was married in El Paso, TX 5 Sep 1918.

Listed in City Directory of El Paso 1919, profession listed as "USA" (soldier)

Furloughed to Reserves Mar 1919

May 20, 1919 El Paso Herald mentions Gundy returned to El Paso from Baltimore, MD where he KO'd Terry Hopkins, Battling Morgan, Frankie Erne and Knockout O'Gatus of Philadelphia and fought Joe Tiplitz.

His son Alvin was born in Cochise, AZ 21 Jun 1919. (My guess is he was temporarily at Fort Huachuca during this time, as he also had several fights in the area)

Honorably Discharged from Army APR 1920.

He's in the US Census in Stephens, TX enumerated 17 Feb 1920, profession listed as "Teamster".

In 1920 he appears in the El Paso, TX city directory, profession listed as "Boxer".

In 1926 he appears in the OKlahoma City, OK city directory, profession listed as "Laborer"

Sometime between 1926 and 1930 I believe he got divorced. His wife is remarried in the 1930 census.

Buried in Norman, OK.
