Nino Valdes 207 lbs beat Mike DeJohn 204 lbs by SD in round 10 of 10

"Outspoken Bobby Gleason, manager of heavyweight Nino Valdes, began his tub-thumping today for a title match after his fighter's split decision win over Mike DeJohn of Syracuse. Valdes, 206 1/2, won last night's fight at the State Fair Coliseum on a two-point margin over his blood smeared opponent. DeJohn weighed 204. DeJohn piled up points in the first two rounds but began to wear under the grueling pressure from the 8th ranked heavyweight. Valdes opened a cut over DeJohn's left eye in the 3rd round and his chopping-inside punching spilled blood from DeJohn's nose." -Associated Press

  • Unofficial AP scorecard - 5-3-2 Valdes
  • Judge Bert Grant's scorecard in rounds was 5-5 Even. However, NY's supplemental points system in the event of an even card was employed which changed his card to an 8-6 for Valdes.
