- Date: 1972-05-22
- Location: Forum, Inglewood, California, USA
- Referee: Larry Rozadilla
"Famoso Gomez, 119 3/4, the 5th rated contender, stopped Cesar Desiga, 118 of Tijuana, Monday night at the Forum. With a chance for the winner to get a chance at the title sometime in June, Gomez came out in the 1st round with a left hook that opened a cut above Desiga's right eye. Gomez never had Desiga down but hurt him on several occasions with lefts to the head. Referee Larry Rozadilla halted the fight after it was apparent the cut was too severe to continue at 1:58 of the 7th round." -Pasadena Star-News
- Gomez' original opponent was Rodolfo Martinez, who had to withdraw due to a virus attack.
- This bout was one of 3 ten rounders featured. The other two was Armando Muniz vs. Raul Soriano and Frankie Crawford vs. Chucho Alonso
