  • "To the Mexican fans the 'big' fight was the 12-round battle for the national flyweight title between Octavio 'Famoso' Gomez and Fermin 'Gallego' Gomez. Octavio had won twice before over his rival and was favored again, but after having Gallego in trouble with a two-fisted barrage in the 2nd round, he suffered a bad cut over his right eye in the 3rd when nailed with a hard left cross by his southpaw opponent. The wound worsened as the fight progressed, and finally it was stopped at the beginning of the 8th round. It was a fast and hard-fought battle between a pair of little gamecocks that had the huge crowd screaming at a wild pitch throughout." -Boxing Illustrated, May 1969 issue

    • The accompanying article referred to Famoso as the champion and Gallego as the challenger. However, it appears to have been for the vacant Mexican flyweight title.
    • This card also featured Jose Napoles against Fate Davis and Alfredo Urbina against Hugo Ramboldi.
