Greeks added competitive boxing to their 23rd Olympiad in 688 BC, reportedly the first time the sport was governed by rules and champions proclaimed. (See also, Origins of boxing.)
In the modern era, boxing was introduced to the 1904 Olympic Games in St. Louis. (Boxing was not included at the 1906 Intercalated Games in Athens, nor in the 1912 Stockholm Olympic Games.)
