According to the Jan. 10, 1948 Tacoma News Tribune, the 58-year-old Gross "former Spokane fight promoter and former manager of the Keglers' club of Spokane, yesterday was sentenced in superior court to not more than five years in the Washington state penitentiary on his conviction of conducting a gambling game. Gross was arrested and convicted after D. J. MacGillivray, Jr., Spokane real estate man, pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $100,000 of his clients' money. MacGillivray testified he lost large sums at the Keglers' club playing 4-5-6, a dice game."
