- Bonavena announced after this fight that he would be fighting Muhammad Ali 'possibly' on December 7th but that the venue had not yet been determined.
"Oscar 'Ringo' Bonavena hardly ruffled his hair Thursday night as he pounded Brazilian Luis Faustino Pires senseless for the third time in their three fights. Bonavena's vicious left hook to the Brazilian's head in the 3rd had the loser so groggy that he couldn't defend himself and the referee forced Pires to take an eight count, even though he didn't go down. The blow opened a bloody cut over the right eye. Pires' seconds threw in the towel for the TKO with 2:40 gone in the 4th round for Bonavena's 44th victory in 53 fights." -United Press International
