In 1959 Oscar Fields of the Salem Crescent AC won the New York Daily News Golden Gloves' open championship at heavyweight vs. Edward Bunyan of the West 17th St Parks Dept. and he won the New York Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions in the heavyweight division by decision vs. Jimmy Blythe. Fields did not partcipate in the Intercity Golden Gloves Tournament in 1959.
