- Maccarinelli was against the ropes in round 2 weathering a barrage of unanswered punches from McKenzie when the referee jumped in to stop the fight.
- Maccarinelli and his team were livid with the stoppage.
- According to the BBC, McKenzie indicated after the fight that he was surprised at the stoppage. He stated "[t]he fight could have carried on, I can't lie about that. It's not my fault, there's nothing I can do. I will give this guy a rematch anytime."
