"Japan's Sadao Yaoita outpointed world flyweight champ Pascual Perez of Argentina by unanimous decision in a dull 10-round non-title match Friday night. It was the first professional defeat for the world champ, who could not find the range Friday night. Yaoita, Oriental flyweight champ and 4th-ranking NBA contender, bobbed, weaved, retreated and scored repeatedly with light but point-winning counterpunches from the 3rd round on. There were no knockdowns and not until the 10th round did they square away in sustained toe-to-toe slugging that looked like a serious fight. But it was more of a boxing exhibition with both fighters coming away unmarked and barely perspiring. Perez seemed to be fighting under wraps most of the way and when he did cut down on Yaoita with a power house swing, the Japanese ducked and rode with the blow unhurt." -Associated Press
