Patrick Lopez 139 lbs beat Juaquin Gallardo 143 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

Bout Summary

Gallardo came out with movement and caution, getting his legs beneath him. Lopez popped him hard with his southpaw right jab while he warmed up, not punching consistently but making each shot count. A right hand in round two stumbled Gallardo but he stayed on his feet, stayed eating shots almost at will for the rest of the round and on through the third round. Gallardo began sticking his jab with more authority in the fourth round and looking for his best options to counter. A right hand and foot tangle would send Lopez to the floor in the fifth round with no knockdown called. A clash of heads in round five brought cuts, but Gallardo continued to come forward. In round six, the right continued to be a weapon even if Lopez slipped the bulk of them while carrying the round with faster, cleaner left handed pot shots to the head and body. Lopez showed even more flair in round seven, choosing to increase his combinations as the fight became mauling on the inside. Lopez sported his own crimson by the end of the round as the battle of bumping foreheads amped up, but his small cut was nothing compared to a total of three around the eyes and scalp of Gallardo. The round came to an end with Lopez landing a hard right, then left before tying up. A hard left hand from Gallardo would land a minute into the eighth round, followed by a right moments later. From bell to bell, both men were loading up with each shot while visibly coming forward with their heads and trading violent jostles in the clinches. The brawl continued in the ninth round with both men landing wicked shots as Gallardo looked for an answer to the better speed and head movement of Lopez. Well behind on points, Gallardo needed a big punch but the shot was not to be found in the ninth or tenth rounds. Lopez was forced to work for it, but the unanimous decision was earned at scores of 97-93 and 98-92 twice.
