"Paul Berlanbach easily beat back the challenge of W.L. "Young" Stribling for the world's light heavyweight title tonight, battering the young Georgian into decisive defeat in a 15 round match that fell far from the spectacular heights expected of it. A crowd of 56.000 saw the champion give Stribling an unmerciful pounding almost from start to finish, forcing the battle in nearly every round and piling up a margin on points that made the judges decision at the finish a mere formality. Stribling's left jabs to the jaw and an overhand right jarred Berlanbach in several rounds, particularly the 2nd, 5th and 9th. These were the only three rounds credited to the challenger by ringside critics, who gave 10 to the champion and registered 2 as even." -Associated Press
