Career Overview
Pedro Laza was a promising prospect in the early 1980s. Laza came to the United States in 1980 during the Mariel Boatlift. Laza found his way to Miami, Florida where he decided on a professional boxing career.
Laza, reportedly a member of the Cuban National Boxing Team, claimed a 88-4 (34 Knockout) amateur record. After losing his first pro fight on a decision, Laza went on an impressive 22 bout winning streak, which earned him a fight with top-rated Cornelius Boza Edwards.
Laza, however, was over-matched. He took a beating and suffered his first loss by knockout. The loss took something out of Laza, and he ended his once promising career on a losing run.
