People's Theater (Cincinnati)
The People's Theater was a theatre in Cincinnati, Ohio in operation from around 1878, until approximately 1927. The theatre was located at the corner of 13th and Vine Street. It was originally known as Heuck's Opera House, but in 1884 was renamed the People's Theater by it's proprietor Hubert Heuck. Heuck in turn renamed another venue he owned called the Coliseum into the "new" Heuck's Opera House, which was nearby at 1221 Vine Street.
People's Theater was originally an opera house, but with the transition to the new opera house, it became known for airing "varieties and burlesque" until it eventually just became a burlesque hall. Boxing first appeared at People's Theater in the 1890s, and would be used as a venue on many occasions after that, with it having perhaps it most regular usage as an indoor venue from late 1924 to 1926.
It had been torn down by the summer of 1927, as an outdoor arena known as the "New" Vine Street Arena was used on it's site.
