"Arthur Persley of New York hoped Tuesday that an upset victory over Interim featherweight champion Percy Bassett would earn him a spot among the contenders in the lightweight division. The 10 round decision over Bassett of Philadelphia at Brooklyn's Eastern Parkway Arena was the 14th straight for Persley. Bassett's title was not at stake since both men weighed well over the featherweight limit. Persley repeatedly outjabbed Bassett and scored his best punch of the fight in the 7th round when he rocked the Philadelphian with a hard right to the jaw." -United Press
