Percy Bassett 127 lbs lost to Charley Riley 129 lbs by TKO at 3:00 in round 2 of 10

"A jaw-splintering right gave featherweight Charley Riley of St. Louis a 2nd round TKO last night over Percy Bassett of Philadelphia. It was the first time in Bassett's long career that he failed to go the distance. The damaging blow came midway in the 2nd round. Bassett bounced away as Riley connected and didn't seem to be badly hurt at the time. Bassett fought out the rest of the round but motioned to his jaw as the round ended, and Dr. Milton Smith pronounced it broken after the examination." -Associated Press

  • Bassett was sent to Barnes Hospital where he was operated on after X-Rays disclosed a multiple fracture of the jaw.
