"Teddy 'Red Top' Davis, Hartford, Conn., scored a startling upset last night by taking a 10 round split decision from Percy Bassett of Philadelphia in the main event at the Eastern Parkway Arena. Bassett seemed below par. His blows carried authority but he didn't connect often enough to do any serious damage. Davis, on the other hand, was busy throughout, using both hands. He didn't hit as hard as Bassett but hit with a greater degree of consistency. Davis' best rounds were the 5th and 7th. Bassett's left eye became swollen in the 5th round. There were no knockdowns." -Associated Press
- Bassett was already signed to fight Charley Riley in D.C. the following Monday. And despite the damage to his eye sustained in this bout, he did so.
