Percy Bassett 128 lbs beat Teddy Davis 126 lbs by MD in round 10 of 10

"Percy Bassett hung grimly onto his 'Interim' featherweight championship today after taking a close decision from Teddy (Red Top) Davis in Philadelphia. Bassett showed only rare flashes of his old form in edging the Hartford, Conn., challenger. Bassett, 128, started off fast against Davis, 126, and held his command of the bout until the 3rd round, when Davis began to move in and out, sniping rapidly and keeping out of range of Bassett's heavier punches. But the Philadelphia champ revealed his winning style in the 7th, and again drilled his opponent, knocking Davis through the ropes at one point." -International News Service

  • Bassett was Interim (or sometimes referred to as Duration) featherweight champ due to the NBA simply awarding him this status due to world champ Sandy Saddler serving in the U.S. Army for a two year stint.
  • Although the accompanying article states that Bassett hung onto his title, it was clearly a non-title bout with Bassett weighing in at 128.
