MOUNT CARMEL — John T. "Pet" Muldoon, 100, of 127 S. Market St., died Easter morning, Sunday, April 8, at Shamokin Area Community Hospital.

He was born in Conshohocken on Feb. 26, 1907.

"Pet" was a retired coal miner who went on to work 52 years as a window cleaner before retiring in 1999. He also worked as custodian for Church of Our Lady, Mount Carmel, for many years. In 1999, he received the Northumberland County Oldest Worker Award.

He was honored on his 100th birthday by Mount Carmel Mayor J. Kevin Jones, who proclaimed Feb. 26, 2007, as John "Pet" Muldoon Day.

On Jan. 28, 1927, in St. John the Baptist Church, Mount Carmel, he married the former Anna Poklemba, who preceded him in death on July 6, 1981.

In his youth, he was a well-known boxer and prize fighter. He was instrumental in organizing Mount Carmel Little League Baseball. He also coached the Church of Our Lady and Moose teams. In 1981, he received the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame Meritorious Achievement Award. Then, in 1999, he was inducted into the Ed Romance Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.
