Pete Ranzany 148 lbs beat Bruce Finch 147 lbs by TKO at 2:59 in round 5 of 10
- Date: 1977-05-04
- Location: Civic Auditorium, San Francisco, California, USA
- Referee: Vern Bybee
"In the 10-round main event, Pete Ranzany was something less than an artistic success but nonetheless scored a 5th round KO over little-known Bruce Finch of Milwaukee. Pete's lackadaisical start almost cost the world's 5th rated welterweight his lofty ranking. Finch, darting in and out, took the 1st round and in the 4th he opened a deep cut under Ranzany's left eye with a stinging right hand. Referee Vern Bybee stopped the fight one second short of the end of the 5th round after Finch had already made two trips to the deck and was a sitting duck for the swarming Ranzany." -San Mateo Times
- Ranzany's cut required 3 stitches.
- Promoter Babe Griffin stated he needed a $20,000 gate to break even, but only made $10,928 for the promotion.
Post-fight comment
- "I hurt him with a left to his liver and then I hit him with two right hands to put him down the first time. The second knockdown was from a body punch." -Pete Ranzany
