"Pete Ranzany of Sacramento stopped young Sal Lopez after six rounds Friday night to retain the Sacramento welterweight championship. Ranzany gave Lopez a bloody nose in the 4th round and a cut over his left eye in the 6th. Lopez's corner did not let him come out for the 7th round. Ranzany was a slim betting favourite in the outdoor fight, a scheduled 10 rounder before a hometown crowd for both fighters." -Associated Press
