Pete Sanstol 119 lbs beat Johnny Erickson 123 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

  • Weights: Erickson 122¾, Sanstol 119

"Hammering his foe through nine of the ten rounds Sanstol carried off the decision of Referee Jed Gahan and Judges George Patrick and Sidney Charlin when the final bell clanged on a contest that lacked competitive appeal because of its one-sidedness. A crowd of 3,000 witnessed the fray.

Only the fact that his resistance to punishment was stronger than the destructive power of his foe's blows saved Erickson from a knockout. In this respect the Harlem veteran deserved praise, for he tore headlong, if altogether blindly, at Sanstol, through every round of the ten, notwithstanding the fact that his every rush was met by a stinging, cutting right-hand jab or uppercut, or a snappy left hook.

Erickson Strong in First.

Erickson showed well in the first round only because Sanstol idled. Thereafter, however, Erickson was pounded under a variety of blows at long range and close quarters.

Erickson had no counter for Sanstol's drives."
