Ugandan Peter Semo became a two-division UBO world champion on December 19 when he stopped late substitute Andrew Samba from Kenya in six rounds at the Lugogo Stadium in Kampala to add the 140 Lb. crown to a collection that already included the 135 Lb. version. Promoter was 2007 UBO Promoter Of The Year, Mr. Eddie Basajja Basira.
Semo, based in Sweden but returning home to please his countrymen, was originally matched with Russian Alex Saltykov, but unfortunately he fell out due to visa-problems. In came Samba and gave a good effort, but Semo proved too strong and skilled for the man from Nairobi.
In round six Semo floored his adversary and referee Said Tebazalwa decided the game co-challenger had had enough and waved the bout off at one minute and 24 seconds of the stanza. Semo improved his record to 19-3 with 14 knockouts, and is now the first boxer ever to win two UBO world titles.
Judges for the contest were Simon Katongole, Ismail Sekisambu and Abdu Kadu.
The show was sanctioned and supervised by the Ugandan Professional Boxing Commision in cooperation with the Universal Boxing Organization.
