Former New Jersey Golden and Diamond Glove Champion. Berman served in the US Navy during WW2-wounded in combat and awarded a Purple Heart. Boxed also while in the Navy winning all 20 of his fights, sixteen by knockout. Suffered a bad wrist injury while in the Navy that hindered his professional career as a fighter.
