Rafael Solis is the brother of Julian, Enrique and Santos Solis. In 1983, he fought Hector Camacho for the WBC world Junior Lightweight title, during an HBO Boxing telecast from Roberto Clemente Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It was the second time that two Puerto Ricans fought for a world title, and the first time HBO showcased a fight from Puerto Rico.

Tied on the scorecards with Camacho Sr. after four rounds, Solis lost by a fifth round knockout. Solis also lost to Bobby Chacon later on.
