"Classy Ralph Dupas of New Orleans took a long step in the title direction in Norfolk's once-a-year fight Wednesday night with a majority decision over welterweight Gaspar Ortega of Mexico. Dupas, 141, kept on the move and making the taller Mexican miss often. Ortega, 145, lost some prestige in defeat. There were no knockdowns and neither fighter appeared in trouble at any time. Except for the 10th, the best round of the fight and just about even, Ortega did most of his damage in the 2nd and 3rd. After that it was mostly Dupas." -Associated Press
- This was a March of Dimes Benefit show which grossed $8,320 at the Norfolk City Arena.
- Unofficial AP scorecard - 99-92 Dupas
