"Paddy DeMarco of Brooklyn jumped into higher lightweight title contention tonight by scoring a 10 round split decision over Ralph Dupas of New Orleans in a nationally televised match. DeMarco finished strong in the late rounds to upset the flashy 18 year old high school boy. Outsped in the fight's early rounds, DeMarco carried the fight to Dupas in the last three to earn the close decision. Dupas was clearly superior at long distance fighting and opened up cuts over DeMarco's nose and left eye in the 1st round. Obviously bothered by the cuts, DeMarco cut down Dupas's lead by rushing him to the ropes in the final three rounds in trying for a knockout." -Associated Press
