"Ralph (Tiger) Jones, who seems to do his best against champions, scored an upset Friday night as he outslugged Charles Humez, the European middleweight champion from France, in a hard-fought 10 rounder at MSG. Jones took command from the start as the Frenchman tried to slug rather than box. Humez suffered a severe cut over the outer edge of his left eye in the 4th round, and that handicapped Jones more than Humez for the rest of the bout. Jimmy August, working expertly in Humez' corner, patched the eye tightly, but Jones, who had been doing well with a free-swinging body attack in the first three rounds, forgot all about that and tried to win a TKO by slicing the eye. Humez was too good a boxer for him, and Jones was lucky to eke out the decision by a single point." -United Press
