Christian Christensen of Denmark was a last minute substiute for Rocky Castellani who had to withdraw because of death in the family.
The bout was televised.
"Ralph (Tiger) Jones, winner of a unanimous decision last night over Denmark's Chris Christensen, blames the referee for his failure to score a knockout in the nationally televised fight. Letting his manager, Bob Melnick, do most of the talking, Jones agreed he could have knocked out the welterweight and middleweight champion of Denmark "if the referee hadn't kept breaking us all the time." -Associated Press
