Jones was in command throughout the fight, with the exception of a good right hand to the head landed by Durando in the third round. A right hand by Jones opened a cut over Durando's left eye in the 4th round. By the end of the 6th round, Durando was bleeding over both eyes. Between the 6th and 7th round, ring doctor Vincenzo Nardiello requested that the bout be stopped.
