"Fast-charging Ramon Fuentes, California welterweight champion, gained a unanimous verdict over Art Aragon before 10,200 fans last night at the Olympic Auditorium. Fuentes won eight of the ten rounds, exerting pressure from start to finish. It was a fast fight and an interesting one. By swarming all over the California 'Golden Boy,' Fuentes kept him from ever getting set for a lethal blow. Fuentes looked especially good in the 1st, 4th and 7th. He moved inside with a two-fisted attack and kept Aragon off-balance. Aragon tagged him with a right in the 3rd that opened a cut on the left eye, but the cut didn't bother him the rest of the way. There were no knockdowns." -Associated Press
- Although both were within the welterweight limit, Fuentes' state title was not at stake.
