Arturo Pineda 137 lbs lost to Randy Shields 136 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

"Randy Shields hammered a unanimous 10 round decision over Tury Pineda Saturday night at the Olympic Auditorium to put him in prime position for a title fight. It was Shields' fight from the outset. Shields utilized his height and reach advantage over Pineda to keep the harder punching Tury off balance and a target throughout the early rounds. While it was Pineda's plan to get inside Shields and then pound away with his power punches, Shields, with stiff jabs and sweeping rights was able to avoid and contain Pineda. Neither fighter was hurt or close to a knockdown, with the highlights of the fight taking place after each bell when both fighters continued throwing punches." -Pasadena Star News

Post fight comments

  • "I felt sluggish. I wasn't tired, I just felt kind of slow. I was happy with the way the fight turned out. I just would have liked to look a little better." -Randy Shields
  • "Without Pineda there wouldn't have been a fight. He fought his heart out out there, those refs were incompetent. I wouldn't let them ref a 4 rounder after this. They all must have been looking at the clock." -Harry Kabakoff, Pineda's manager
