"Japanese invader Sho Saijo scored a stunning upset over world featherweight champion Raul Rojas with a majority decision over the San Pedro fighter Thursday night at the Olympic Auditorium. The fight was a non-title affair, but it guaranteed Saijo a return match with Rojas in the near future. The crowd roared through most of the fight, one of the best seen in this area for several years. The sluggish Rojas bulled his way through the first round and appeared as if it would be just a matter of time before he decked Sho for good. However, the swift Japanese staggered Rojas in the 2nd frame and virtually matched the Harbor area fighter throughout the next eight rounds. Perhaps the best round was the 6th when the throng stood on its feet during the entire three minutes screaming. Sho packed away the fight in the final two rounds when he virtually peppered Rojas at will." -Long Beach Independent
