"World-ranked lightweight Ray Lampkin of Portland won a disputed but unanimous decision over Brooks Byrd of Clovis, N.M., late Thursday night in a boring match at Multnomah County Exposition Center. Byrd came out dancing and stayed out of reach for most of the first five rounds. It took him nine rounds before he began to land. By the 10th round Byrd was scoring consistently with his right hand." -Associated Press
