"The show closed for Chu Chu Malave. Chu Chu must have lost count of the number of punches Ray Lampkin was landing very early into the fight. Without doubt Lampkin took the first five rounds, easy. And two minutes into round four Ray gave Chu Chu a special preview of what was to come. He knocked Malave to one knee with a fast-moving combination. Lampkin had won the race that Chu Chu started when he flew out of his corner from the 5th round on. Malave was attempting to get to Ray before he could get out those left jabs. When Lampkin was told to race out and meet him, he threw a right that missed. But the left hook that followed didn't. Malave had to be helped back to his corner." -INTERNATIONAL BOXING, October 1973 issue
- Although Malave, a part-time actor, announced his retirement after this bout, he went on to have two more bouts, retiring for good later in the year.
