Controversy and Appeal

This bout was originally for Jennings NZPBA Super Featherweight title, however the decision from the appeal has changed to a non title contest due to the amount of controversial events. Originally Baby Nansen was announced as the winner by Split Decision, however the supervising official approach Nansen team 10 minutes after the announcement and stated the scorecards were added up incorrectly and the result was actually a Split Decision Draw, stripping and changing the result immediately.

More has been revealed that Wellington NZPBA representative Ian Scott, was out of the country at the time to attend the annual IBF convention. The officials who were appointed to take Scott's place, pulled out at the last minute including a couple of other judges, making four officials down. Mark Hampton who is the promoter of this event and also the trainer, manager and cornering Rebecca Jennings, was appointed as NZPBA Commissioner and Title Supervisor. Outside of Promoting and managing/training his boxers, he is a NZPBA judge, but while promoter and title supervising this bout, Hampton was cornering Jennings. There has also been reports that the original master sheet of the scorecards have gone missing.

It has been confirmed that Nansen's team has put in an appeal to either:
A) change the result for Nansen to be the winner of the bout
B) if the decision was not change then an immediate rematch to happen within 90 days
C) to have an investigation on that has happened so this can never happen again and punish the person responsible

On 3rd of August 2017, it was announced that NZPBA made an official decision of the appeal. It was decided that the decision will not be changed, however the the bout will no longer be a title bout due to the accumulation of Facts and Mishaps, namely Loss of NZ Title Documentation, and Incorrect Judges Card. NZPBA has ordered a Mandatory Rematch for the said NZ title with the rematch be within one hundred and eighty (180) days as from July 12 2017.
