The record given here is based partly on newspaper reports, especially from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and partly on a record in IBRO #54, provided by Gordon L. Pouliot. Pouliot provided the following comment:

"In about 1953 or 1954, when I was a Miami, Fla. police officer, I spent much time in the County Hospital emergency room completing reports. On one occasion I noticed a strong looking orderly with a nose & eye scars that indicated he had been a fighter. He appeared to be about 40-42 years of age. Upon talking with this man, I learned he was Red Bruce. He was articulate & intelligent & told me he had recently moved to Miami. He was pleased that I knew him & of his many fights against top men & we agreed that we would meet & talk about his career. I never saw him again & learned that he had quit the orderly job shortly after I spoke with him."
