"Rex Layne, once second-ranked heavyweight contender, was knocked out Tuesday night for the second time in 10 weeks by Earl Walls of Edmonton, Canada, ranked No. 10 among the heavy fighters. The Utah slugger held a commanding lead over the Canadian champ before he caught a sharp left on the jaw and went down for the third and final time in the 6th round. The 190 1/4 pound Layne completely outmaneuvered Walls through the first five rounds, although Walls, at 186 1/2, started fast in the first round as he did when he laid Layne away in 53 seconds on July 3rd." -Associated Press
